I am a sedentary office worker.. and long ago, I carried a zillion pound backpack with all my supplies while commuting via metro pre-covid. I was lucky to work from home once covid started, but hunched over a small desk at home, I wondered why I was beginning to feel pain in my shoulder. Around late Spring last year I found myself awake in constant pain, popping ibuprofen every night just to get some z&#8217;s. I was browsing YouTube videos &#8220;shoulder stretch exercise&#8221; or &#8220;GOODBYE ROTATOR CUFF PAIN!&#8221; I signed up for stretching exercise apps my company offered. I bought a new office chair and a keyboard tray. My Amazon app was constantly offering ergonomic desk options. Nothing did the trick. Most days I wondered what would be worse &#8211; just cut off my arm? Or live with this pain? \u00a0By Christmas I was no longer able to put on a shirt, touch my back, do basic house chores, chop onions, or sleep soundly for a night. So I called Point Performance in January and met Dr. Klaiman, then Dr. Gruner, and finally my PT Allison Evron. And long story short, it is almost March and I can touch lower back, and put on a shirt, and drum rolls&#8230; I sleep. At night. The whole 7-8 hours. No prescriptions, otc pain meds required! I know I still have some ways to go, but you frozen shoulder peeps would have to agree that is big. This is entirely PT and Allison&#8217;s magic work.Dr. Klaiman and Dr. Gruner are both clearly knowledgeable and very experienced. They both realized my problem right away. When I was prescribed to do PT by both doctors I was initially skeptical &#8211; I just wanted some shots and make it go away in a week. But meeting Allison was the best decision I have ever made. Allison, first off, is the nicest, friendliest, and least-judgmental PT. You don&#8217;t need to be an athlete or an avid sport person. She will listen to your concerns and is so attentive. (Full disclosure: I am a big wuss, so it is not easy working with me.) Shoulders are apparently a complex one to treat, and she spent a lot of time listening to where I am hurting, and created exercises to address those points. Allison is amazing with manual muscle work &#8211; my rom magically improves after she works with me. It is amazing and I always tell her I wish could just carry her in my pocket. (Can I?) I am doing so much better because of her. And the fact that doctors and PTs are in the same building means they are constantly in touch and working together to solve your issue. It is great to know that you do have a team taking care of you and see them in action right in front of your eyes. It may feel busy inside to some, but I never felt crowded and you get so much attention. I had received PT for back issues before in another business, and while they were great but the attention you receive at Point Performance is bar none. Along with Allison, the techs Emma and Rachel will watch over me and correct my bad habits. Emma told me once as she corrected my posture (aka your workout is about to kick into a higher gear) &#8220;If your exercise feels pretty easy, you probably aren&#8217;t doing it right.&#8221; Truth. And spending my entire life as a hunchback, I am paying attention to my posture thanks to Allison&#8217;s taping technique, and pointers for ergonomics. What else can I say? They are the best in PT business in this town. I bet you are reading this because you have pain. He and the rest of the staff at Point Performance were knowledgeable, professional, and encouraging. My appointments were always on time and there was ample coordination among the staff, even when there were a lot of patients present. The administrative staff was also always very friendly and organized, and I never had a single issue with scheduling and billing during my many interactions with them.Chris started every session by discussing my progress (or regression in some cases) over the previous week, and tailoring my exercises accordingly. I felt like he really listened to what I was saying; at the same time, he did not hesitate to let me know when he thought I was overdoing it. It was not an easy or linear recovery, but the staff at Point did everything they could to help me, and I am finally back running again. These folks know their stuff. Most impressive of all, if they&#8217;re not the right ones to help, they will help you find other excellent clinicians who are. (My nephew needed a different type of treatment modality, and they did a great job helping with referral\/getting seen.)Over the years, through time lived in several major cities including Philly, Boston, NY, and Atlanta, I&#8217;ve had physical therapy for varying types and levels of injuries, from recovery after major knee surgery to &#8220;cervical strain&#8221; (what they used to call whiplash) after a big fender-bender. I have good friends in the PM&#038;R field, and Dr. Klaiman and his team here are some of the best outpatient clinicians I&#8217;ve ever encountered. They don&#8217;t just go through the motions here, with cookie-cutter routines for everyone &#8212; they seem invested in individualized, optimal recovery.Front office is well-run, efficient, and helpful with billing and scheduling &#8212; never a problem. I had seen another PT who had somewhat helped the issue, but never really got to the underlying cause of my injury and how to prevent future muscle issues. Finally, I decided to see Adam Gershowitz, as he had been highly recommended to me by family and friends, and I have been blown away! For the first time in over a year, I am pain-free because I finally understand why my injury occured and how I can prevent it from re-occurring. I had 2 dry needling sessions with Adam which were extremely therapeutic (though painful at the time, worth it), and have been taught the proper form and positions for the various exercises I do regularly. When he came through in our reading, he mentioned his &#8220;banana nose.&#8221; He was very good looking and had a rather large, Greek nose. I started picking things up- my mind drawn to various things. Husband slipped into the store without me noticing just as I was ringing a singing bowl. He approached and said- of course you are playing. A reminder that he and Kelly were waiting on me. I scanned the cases quickly and found small pottery bottle. Sacred Circle is supposed to be a place of acceptance and healing, which I did not get. The rapid progress is super motivating. \u00a0As someone relatively new to Pilates, I appreciate the pacing and the thorough explanations I receive in Tanya and Lisa&#8217;s classes. The challenge level and speed in Joanne&#8217;s classes is also good for beginners who want to focus on form and gradually building up strength. For those with Pilates experience or people looking for more of a fitness challenge, Isabel&#8217;s level I routine is a little more difficult. Ulrick&#8217;s first Tuesday jumpboard class is the most intense I have taken so far, but I found that I was in far over my head for my current level of strength and conditioning. I did appreciate his high-energy, positive approach, though. The studio is lovely &#8212; well lit, spacious, and conveniently arranged for smooth in-workout transitions. My only (minor) quibbles are the transition periods between classes and the routine for cleaning machines. The schedule allows just five minutes between classes, which can rush bathroom breaks, questions for the instructor, or retail transactions. Because of the rapid transitions, staff rely on clients to wipe down the machines with disinfectant wipes. Depending on how much of a germaphobe you are, your experience can be affected by whoever came before you on the Reformer and his or her attention to detail. I&#8217;ve found RTR Pilates&#8217; pricing to be a good value, particularly as compared to private or semi-private Reformer sessions. Back on the east coast, you&#8217;re lucky to find a reformer class for less than $35 a pop. Since you should really do it at least 3 times a week, that gets pricey fast. I&#8217;m glad I found Potomac Pilates, as they have a great monthly membership that&#8217;s available. So the more classes you go to, the cheaper cost per class. They also offer a happy hour membership at a reduced rate, which restricts classes to weekdays after lunchtime. Those classes I hear fill up fast. They open registration a month out for all classes. You register online and have a handy iPhone app too. I had my first class today, and it was great. The class size isn&#8217;t too big, and the instruction was clear. The studio is easy to get to and clean. They make everyone wear toe socks, which takes getting used to but is also handy in the winter since I haven&#8217;t had a pedicure in ages. Most importantly, it was a good workout. Looking forward to my next workout. Jenni provided the class with instructions on the sweatlana machine and demonstrated proper execution of each exercise before the class started.The 50-minute workout involved core and resistance moves that worked my arms, abs, and butt. I could feel my muscles being challenged during the workout and I loved it. Jenni gave individual attention to each of the thirteen people in the class. She gently corrected our form as needed to ensure we executed the moves correctly and avoided injuries.The workout room was filled with positive words along the wall above the mirrors and motivational phrases on the floor between the front and back of each machine. The phrase nearest my machine read: &#8220;you&#8217;ve got this; don&#8217;t give up.&#8221; Reading those words helped me to press on whenever I felt like pausing between repetitions.I can see why people enjoy working out at Solidcore. I&#8217;m already looking forward to my next full body workout here. I didn&#8217;t break a sweat in this beginner class, so I&#8217;m ready to step it up with the regular full body class next time.Know before you go:1. Of course I was game ready&#8230;however, post work out three days later, I&#8217;m still feeling the massive (positive) burn. &#038; now have a clearer understanding of what an INTENSE work out means.I took advantage of the New Client &#8211; Two Classes Special for $29 &#038; was required to arrive 15 minutes early before class so the Instructor &#8211; Jenni could demonstrate &#038; educate. The Beginner&#8217;s class (required for your 1st visit) had about 12 people with 14 machines aka &#8216;Sweatalana&#8217;. Jenni did not skip a beat on group teaching while she was observant &#038; attentive on an individual basis when needed. Specifically when it came to proper posture &#038; performing the exercises correctly.The almost an hour extreme, low impact with controlled (yeah right, that was the hard part) movements of crunches, lunges, planks &#038; squats in a precise sequence gives your entire a body a maximum work out. Not to mention hearing &#038; doing coordination is key, as you alternate between both ends of the machine while swapping out various weight cables throughout the class.Parking is slim on the side street off of Wisconsin Avenue which is metered parking. Do not park in Beer Wine Co.&#8217;s parking lot. The instructor was friendly, encouraging and accommodating; she made sure everyone felt comfortable with the machine and amount of resistance attached. The classes are pretty small, so the instructor is able to give you individual attention and correct your posture and form. Also, they start on time and lock the doors to the studio, so make sure you&#8217;re on time!{Studio}: I found the studio to be clean and modern. The studio is spacious and the machines are still relatively brand new. I came here recently for a mock class (training class for soon to be instructors) with Katherine. Solidcore workouts are extremely hard, especially if you are not following the correct form&#8230; it can really cause a strain on your body. I really liked how Katherine took the time to demonstrate the sequences before class and checked on each of us throughout the class. She let us know that she will be teaching soon and Bethesda and possibly Wildwood.I know that the classes are pricey, but if you are looking for a workout that actually gives results, it is worth every dollar! Back in SF, I do workout using the Pilates Reformer machines (Pilates ProWorks) and the Lagree Method machines (Core40). This class blows both other workouts out of the water! I had Bethann for my first class (highly recommend!) who was an awesome instructor for my first class! She was very welcoming, encouraging, and very hands-on during the workout to correct form. Her killa playlist was the cherry on the top.Overall, I do prefer this class over the others because the class I took (All-Levels) was a full-body workout that made me surprisingly sweat a lot. Compared to other similar workouts, this was a very balanced workout that worked out all muscle groups evenly, and allowed each person variations (via varying positions and spring load) to push to your own personal limit.
