Misty and co. are still kicking my butt! I love the new Barre classes and Misty’s constant evolution as an instructor. I visit often from the west coast, and notice that she is always on the cutting edge of the practice, incorporating new “toys”, techniques, and tricks to ensure that every class is working the whole body. The new Shadyside studio is awesome, with tons of brand new equipment and a huge, bright studio space! This is still the best Pilates studio anywhere–including California. Sorry Ellie Herman.

I highly recommend Touchstone Pilates. I have been a client since Touchstone Pilates opened.  Because I had been having problems with lower back pain and general lack of flexibility, I wanted to find out whether Pilates could help.  IT HAS HELPED!!  I am more flexible and able to do exercises that I thought my body was not capable of.  Plus, I feel great! Lisa varies the workout at every session and knows when to introduce more advanced exercises. Lisa Pellow, owner, is a wonderful instructor – very concerned about her clients’ well being.

I came here after a car accident caused some back and leg problems, and–as you might have guessed from the rating–this place was instrumental in my recovery. Now, I could talk about the speed of my recovery (way faster than I expected) or the things I can do now that I couldn’t before (with which I impressed even myself), but honestly, I’m not qualified to evaluate the competence of healthcare professionals.  My injuries may have been so easy to treat, anyone could have done it.  Or I might be back up and running today solely due to the brilliance and dedication of my physical therapist at NovaCare.  I’ll never know. But I can report good results, and I can recommend this facility for other less-sciencey reasons as well.1.) The therapist I worked with, Matt, was extremely easy to work with.  He was helpful, attentive and specific.  Also, somewhat confidence inspiring.  And he’s got an awesome first name, but your own mileage may vary on that one.2.) I received a lot of good information and feedback, from both Matt and from the office.  I felt like I had enough information to make intelligent choices about my own care, and I felt (and still feel) like I know what to expect going forward and how to respond.2a.) My physical therapist was especially good at communicating the information clearly, and providing a lot of helpful context as well.3.) They’re not afraid to say “I don’t know.”  A lot of healthcare professionals don’t like to admit that outright, but when I asked a bunch of questions about other potential actions I could take, one of them was met with a very honest “I don’t know.  I haven’t read any good medical studies on the effectiveness of that option in cases like yours, so I can’t advise you either way.”4.) It’s easy to schedule appointments; they were even understanding about a last-minute change.  And, being part of a large network of NovaCare facilities, I was able to make a last-minute change when something came up despite the office being closed (someone at some other location just changed the appointment for me).5.) They have this really cool magic machine which made my back cold then tingly then hot, and through the miracle of science it made my muscles feel better.  Yay!All in all, I’d definitely recommend this location (and Matt in particular) to anyone in need of physical therapy.

While this studio surely is clean and aesthetically pleasing, Betty Jo is the reason I drive over an hour each way multiple times a week to Core Pilates. As an instructor, she not only expects my full effort but is also patient, accommodating, and kind. Her style of teaching brings out the best of my abilities while allowing for adjustments when necessary, and I always leave Betty Jo’s classes feeling refreshed and energized. Her knowledge is seemingly never-ending, and I am overjoyed every day she offers her class. I am grateful to have found her–if it weren’t for Betty Jo, I don’t know what I would do!

I’ve been having lower back pain and a chiropractor told me to get a deep tissue massage. Yesterday was my first time so I was hesitant and didn’t know what to expect but Stephania was very thorough and knowledgeable which made me much more relaxed and comfortable. Although I felt awesome afterwords, it wasn’t until today that it really kicked in how great I feel. It has been incredible noticing how often I used to wince in pain when I would bend over. I feel like a new man today! Not just the fact that my back doesn’t hurt (which I’m still getting used to) but that my whole body and mind just seem much more in tune with each other. The whole experience yesterday was just as mentally therapeutic as it was physical and I think that’s why I’m showing such good results. Stephania’s massage therapy did wonders for me and I would recommend her to anyone.
