About No Other Book Like This
The journey of our store from selling online to brick-and-mortar store is really what makes us the most unique, as well as our collection–hand-picked by the owner, a librarian and book collector, it offers something for every person who comes in with any interest, in vintage books and new. That, and our ridiculously cute and funny bookstore dog Benny–he loves absolutely everyone. He will greet you at the door, follow you around as you look at books, cry at you for attention sometimes and generally make the atmosphere about him if he can. Sit down, and he’ll be on your lap instantly 🙂
History: As an online business we were started in 2015 on Etsy, but as a physical store we opened in August 2021 in Groton Connecticut. When our lease expired, I was devastated it was not going to be renewed for reasons I wasn’t told, and I thought I had to close after a year of hard work and becoming a part of the community. One door closes, and another one opens, however, because we found a new location in Mystic in town, right across from the train station, and opened there in November 2022. This new community has welcomed us in the best way, and we hope to continue offering local, our regulars, and tourists from all over an exciting additional space in the area to come and enjoy yourself in a way only a used bookstore can offer 🙂

I and my Significant Other were taking a day trip to Mystic from Hartford CT with no idea that there even was a book store in Mystic. Then we saw a small shop with an odd name, “No Other Book Like This.” We went in, and were flabbergasted to come across one of the nicest small book shops I’ve ever visited. A large collection of great books from sci-fi to vintage to popular to everything else–I even saw a 19th-century 2nd edition of Noah Webster’s Dictionary! Plus the shop owner was the absolute soul of charm. She couldn’t have been more friendly or more knowledgable about books or about the town generally, and I walked away with several affordable little gems. Forget the Seaport Museum–this was easily the best thing about our visit to Mystic, and is a must stop for any book lover in the Connecticut area.

Friendly shop owner, cute bookshop dog, and an AMAZING collection of books. What more could you want? Oh that it’s also across the street from the station so you can wait for the train while surrounded by books – yup you can want that. 🙂

This group of therapists resolved severe hip pain that two other therapists had been unable to touch. Jerry listened carefully, tested my range of motion etc., and set me on a course of treatment that “healed” my gluteal tears and severe hip pain. Within 3 weeks of beginning with Jerry, the pain subsided significantly and after 8 weeks, I am pain free. Very competent, very respectful, and clearly quite knowledgeable, Jerry tailored my program to address specific issues, with GREAT SUCCESS. I cannot speak highly enough of this group of practitioners. Thank you, Jerry & Co.!!!Sup

Highly recommended: outstanding staff, clean facilities, convenient location, excellent care. Was pleased with results for a shoulder injury, almost fully resolved after 8 or 9 sessions. Very attentive, keen listeners, asked thorough questions, truly sought to understand and then provide best treatment plans possible, with a wide variety of exercises and stretches. Great commitment to intern development, with proper oversight. Observed interactions with other patients, from young children to elderly / seniors; always super professional, with appropriate fun / humor / personal engagement. Again, highly recommended.

I loved, loved, loved working with Jerry at Spectrum Physical Therapy in Mystic. I had an unusually difficult surgery involving a hip tendon which required several months of focused therapy. Jerry was so knowledgeable and worked with my surgeon’s physical therapist to tailor a medically appropriate rehabilitation program for me that was perfect in every way. Jerry’s also got a keen sense of humor and a shining personality. The therapy space is well-equipped and intimate with only a couple of clients present at any given time, so there is time to get Jerry’s full attention and ask questions. And Beth at reception is very bright and flexible and negotiates every appointment with care and skill. Just loved this team and I will return if I need PT again for anything! I’ve been to many physical therapy clinics and this is the best experience I have had by far.

My experience with Spectrum Physical Therapy was terrific. Nancy on the front desk is the best. My therapist, Jerry, really challenged me and made my recovery from injuries go quickly and smoothly.

The facility is clean and well lit. The equipment is also clean and in great operating condition. The environment is conducive to looking forward to coming in.Leslie is knowledgeable and encourages me to stretch my previous limits, but not to the point of overdoing it. The range of exercises work well together, and allow me to recover from one while starting the next.Theresa is always helpful in finding me times that fit my schedule, and re-scheduling when I have a conflict. If you live in Mystic-Stonington, this is a great place with a convenient location! I love First Therapy! When I went there in March, the pain in my arms and numbness in my hands keeping me up at night. It was at about an 8 on the pain scale. Through exercise and their expertise, I am now at a 0 to 2 for pretty much any movement I do. The key is keeping at it and following the directions of things to do at home. They have truly given me my life back. During the shutdown due to the corona virus, I had detailed paperwork on exactly what to do. They have customized my exercises to focus on areas that have been problematic for me, and now I can do the things I could not do just a few months ago. I highly, highly recommend First Physical Therapy.

Bank Square Books is beautiful bookstore in downtown Mystic. It is independently owned, by the current owners since 2006. It has been a bookstore in this very location for 35 years. When I first walked inside I was under the impression that this is a tiny bookstore, the further I walked the more books I would discover. This isn’t a tiny bookstore, it is moderately sized.I loved the variety of books available. There’s fiction, history, brand new releases, kids, and specific interests such as birds. In addition to the books, they also have some giftable items. There’s wrapping paper and cards here also. They also have comfy chairs and couches so you can get comfy while reading. This is such a beautiful bookstore that I’m glad to support in downtown Mystic.

I did not find the staff very welcoming or friendly, but the selection of books here is really good. I loved the wall of books with hand written, detailed staff recommendations. I will always support an independent bookstore and really enjoyed browsing here.

Bank Square Books is located in a street corner in Mystic, down the street from Mystic Pizza. There is a paid parking lot in back if you’re lucky enough to get a spot. The book store itself has a great selection of local books right in front, and an adorable childrens/teen display in the second room. If you need a gift, even for someone who isn’t a reader, they have an adorable selection of gifts. Rectangle candles? Where else would you see those?

The post-pandemic (we hope) Bank Square is just such a happy place to visit these days! We’ve loved this store for many years — this is our third update — and it keeps getting better. We’re so pleased that it seems to have come through the worst of COVID with a sense of humor, knowledgeable employees and a full stock of books. We’re especially fond of the large cookbook section and the many books on US history. But really, there’s no shortage of stock anywhere, and they host fun in-person readings now, too. Connecticut is blessed with some terrific bookstores, and this is very definitely among the best.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Dishonest store workers/managers offered me an opportunity to purchase a one of a kind rare signed book only to sell it out from under me before waiting the few hours that they AGREED UPON. I responded immediately by calling themafter I received their personal invitation to purchase email. Wasted my time traveling 30 minutes to transfer a large sum of money (thousands) for this purchase. Both greed and incompetence seems to have played a major role here. Maggie agreed to hold the book until mid afternoon while the money was being transferred to my bank. I wrote to Sophia (who sent me the invitation) to confirm this confirmation ten minutes after the phone call and never received a response. At the very least, they should have written back. Only when I called to pay, the Management gave the “sorry” routine. Promised to wait, but greed took over and they pulled the rug out from under me. Don’t buy from them, they are dishonest !

Tom and April are a wonderful team who made our first time home buying experience a lot less stressful. They allowed us to accompany them to our inspection and showed us things they had found as they found them. They physically showed us immediate safety issues to issues that can be wait to be fixed with an approximate time frame. April was very quick with uploading pictures and starting the report while in the home, to make the report assessable sooner. Toms experience was radiating, and educational. We highly valued his 30+ years of experience in the field. Look no further for a trusted home inspector ! Thank you both so much.
Cherie D. rated 1 stars on 9/20/2022
The 1 star is a gift. He inspected my first home purchase. 5 months in, I notice the 275 gallon oil tank in the basement is leaking. Those leaks don’t happen overnight. They take years to be visable. He missed it. He missed the white garments stained with brown feces wrapped around a pipe (under the bathroom), in the basement ceiling. Missed that the front door didn’t lock. Missed a mouse infestation. Missed the flooding that occurs in the basement any time it rains. Missed the porch sliding off of the house. But when He Refused to help when we had no heat, I decided to sue him. His inspection report CLEARLY shows he never even looked at that tank. Only the fill pipe outside. Once I mentioned it to the local oil delivery companies, they blacklisted me. They refused to deliver. We went all winter without heat and had to use space heaters resulting in a $650 electric bill every month. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I was sludging through snow to pour 5 gallons of Diesal in the pipe outside, once a day, just to keep the heat on 45 so the pipes wouldn’t freeze. Did he care? Nope. I begged him to send someone to look at it. Crickets. Once I replaced the heating system, ($11K) thanks to Energize CT, I tried to sue him in small claims and it was thrown out because His contract says you can’t sue him. (Nice!) It Says you must go through arbitration. Well, arbitration costs $2500.00 to start. No wonder! No normal person can afford that after they’ve had to fix all of his mistakes. This guy is such a bad person deep down that he even refused to send someone out and put me on a payment schedule. I was desperate. “The tank wasn’t leaking, be a responsible homeowner and fix it yourself”. I have 7 rescue animals here, and me. We were all huddled in one room all winter last year, with electric blankets and a space heater. All because he sucks at his job AND couldn’t just be a decent human being. Don’t use this company if you want peace of mind, A “SOUND HOME”, to have any recourse WHEN he screws up and lies about it, or a THOROUGH INSPECTION.

Tom and his team performed an incredibly thorough inspection of the home I am buying. I have total peace of mind knowing I’ll be buying a solid great house. He caught things, made videos, documented everything and gave me very good guidance about what to expect from my older home.He explained everything he was doing…it was quite an education!

As a first time home buyer who is taking the dive into an antique fixer upper, I couldn’t be more grateful to have found Tom and April. Kind, courteous, patient with my endless sea of questions; they calmly spent nearly 4 hours inspecting my soon to be home. I feel assured that they left no wall untouched, no drain unchecked. Every inch of the house was looked at, evaluated and explained to me. Not only were they a joy to talk to, and clearly incredibly experienced, but the report they sent me reviews everything. 51 pages of information, photos and even short videos. I couldn’t be happier. If you are considering buying an antique home, Tom and April are the team for you. I swear you won’t be disappointed.

Tom and the Sound Home Inspection team performed a thorough inspection of our property. Tom’s knowledge of the mechanical systems of the home along with local building codes was evident during the inspection. They identified several concerns; all of which were documented in the report with visual evidence. I appreciated his guidance and the quick turnaround of the inspection report.

Tom and April were excellent for our recent inspection of a home from 1747. Tom took the time to educate and help us understand the functionality of a home from the septic system to making sure we grasp where light switch locations were. The biggest purchase of our life and he really helped us grasp the things we need to look out for. I was nervous about having such an old home inspected and wanted someone who had a lot of experience with antique homes and I am so glad I found Tom. I highly recommend his videos as well before he comes out – they go into great detail and can also prepare you for your inspection. An example being not having the septic pumped prior to inspection which is actually what septic companies require – he goes through his rationale in the video! Plus he has some great educational materials he gives at the inspection. We have used another inspection company in the past and Tom was substantially better suited to provide perspective especially on an older home. Couldn’t recommend more!

Lauren is truly gifted. She’s also kind and professional. I have had 2 readings from her and I have brought friends and family to her as well and we all believe she is “spot on”. She really focuses on you and picks up on things only you know are true. She is worth the investment if you are seeking answers in your life. 5 stars!

Proceed with caution. She was pleasant in demeanor but seemed to be telling me what I wanted to hear. Indicated my issues were due to a malevolent presence and offered a process for a fee to get rid of the “spirit”.
Avery S. rated 1 stars on 11/4/2023
No hate towards this woman, but this was such a scam. She would make a blanket statement and then look at me for a reactions. She said basic things like “you will be rich” and “you will get married”. She would ask me information about my life and then turn over a card and act like she found it out. Also she used the entire tarot deck?! Not supposed to do that…. She told my friend and I the exact same fortune, it was laughable. I wouldn’t recommend spending 50$ for 15 minutes of lies

Sketchy to say the least, she told me my chakras were blocked and wanted hundreds of dollars to clear. She said it could take several visits and was concerned if i was seeing other physics or mediums. She might behave some gifted abilities but I consider her a scam.

Oh my! This is about as good as it gets, as Lauren provided the most accurate, informative and insightful reading I have ever had. I cannot say enough about my visit expect that it was spectacular and astonishing as to how she got things so correctly. When I called her to make an appointment, I requested a time slot, she said OK, then hung up! I was going to call her back and give her my name, but then thought otherwise. She didn’t even want to know my name! I went in to her reading without her having the advantage to look me up on Google beforehand…which made the reading even more powerful since she knew nothing about me. She has a true gift. It’s almost scary, but in such a positive and enlightening way. Go visit her. WOW.

IPT moved to its current Mystic location in April of 2007 and has rapidly grown over the past 7 years largely due to, much appreciated, patient and doctor referrals, creative marketing, and of course great patient care.

Note: I originally posted my review on 4/10/2016 on an unclaimed account – there are many more reviews on the other IPT acct (listed under physiotherapy). Here it is again. :)Incredible dedication to service. I felt listened to and genuinely cared for by the staff. Prior to being referred to IPT, I had been ignored by my doctor and my medical concerns dismissed. My first consultation Jeanie diagnosed me immediately and we came up with a plan. It was brilliant! Weeks of dedicated work where I was totally supported through the entire process. I cannot thank them enough. Not only did I work out my physical ailments, but they really helped me deal with my PTSD from the accident. They had great recommendations for how I could continue working out at home, complete with print outs so I could do the exercises on my own. My therapist noticed and appreciated that I did my exercises and always offered encouragement – and tough love when I needed it. When routines needed something I didn’t have, Jeanie generously offered me tools like a stretch of the rubber band for free. The holistic approach IPT staff undertakes is wonderful, it helps you heal with more than just physical treatment, but recover mentally and emotionally as well. Their services were absolutely invaluable and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs physical therapy or just wants to join a fantastic gym.

Not good at listening to the patient nor communicating what to expect when recommending a type of exercise. I returned to my doctor and the advice was to find a different PT.They also want to charge me for KT tape. Shouldn’t a business buy their own supplies? After writing the above, promoted by my asking to end my care: The owner called me to discuss what went wrong. We had a very cordial conversation which, likely, will help in the long run. Thanks for the call to make my patronage more appreciated.

A few years ago I was having issues with both of my shoulders. Bursitis and tendinitis from all the heavy lifting I did at work. Moose Gilbert found that I had weak rear deltoid muscles and needed to build them up and strengthen the other rotator cuff muscles around my shoulders. I haven’t had any problems with my shoulders since. I’m currently seeing Moose again because I broke my right ankle back in February and had an old meniscus tear repaired in May. I play Roller Derby with the local team here in Groton and I have no doubt that Moose will get me back out there playing the sport I love. He has been a God send as far as I’m concerned. He makes physical therapy something to look forward to not dread going to.

Although I had a good experience with the physical therapist that I worked with, the business practices of Independence Physical Therapy leave much to be desired. For this reason alone, I would not recommend them.

I work with clients who are experiencing physical issues, emotional issues, and a few who just need an hour or so of peace and quiet and and a great nap!! This is hands on work, but not a massage. Clothing, except shoes, stays on.
