I came to SERC after having surgery on my wrist to repair a torn tendon. The hand specialist, Katie, was excellent. She was very attentive and upbeat, and created a customized program for my recovery. After the first visit, there were always 1-3 other patients being treated at the same time as me, but I never felt ignored, as Katie was great at multitasking between us. SERC was also cheaper than the other places I looked at, which I appreciated.

I do not recommend SERC on No. Oak Trafficway. They do not have sufficient therapy staff to handle the patient needs. It was a waste of time and money.

I began at SERC last year in May. Matt Olesky was my PT, and he was very friendly, as were all the physical therapists at this location. My one complaint about the facility was that there would be about eight to ten patients with only two therapists being treated simultaneously; it felt a bit like I was at the Jiffy Lube of physical therapists. My fist session, I was treated by Craig. He looked at my chart and told me that I would owe $20 per appointment. I was incredulous. “I don’t think I’ve met my deductible” I said. He told me that my chart said to charge me $20 a session. (I chose not to argue with that)Early on in my treatment, Matt told me that my shoulders were too unstable to treat with PT and that I needed bankart repair surgery, but he didn’t recommend anyone in KC for that procedure. So each week I would come in, he would put Biofreeze on me and a TENS unit (we’d do no exercise because I was unable to perform the exercises) and he’d tell me he’d look into finding someone who would be a good orthopedic surgeon. Each week, I would ask him if he found a good recommendation and each week he hadn’t had a chance to yet. I told him that I might have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (a soft tissue disorder which I was later diagnosed with in August) and not only did he not look it up, he continued to see me. Being that it was only $20, I continued to pay for the Biofreeze, heating packs, and TENS. Much to my dismay, about a week after I stopped going in June, I received a bill for over $500. I called the billing company and got hung up on repeatedly and told that a “manager would call me back” I have now been paying $35 monthly payments for the last year. When I called the location on Main Street to ask why I was told that it was $20 per session. Matt said, “Why does it matter? You’re going to hit your out of pocket max after the shoulder surgery anyway. Why do you care what medical expense it goes towards?” Touche. Except, I didn’t hit my out of pocket max, because I am not a candidate for the surgery, because I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (which I told him previously)In Matt’s defence, he seems like a really great guy and he helped me get a he TENS unit free of charge. He was just too busy and over run with clients to help a special case client. If you have a really basic issue and don’t mind waiting on the phone forever to talk to the billing department, I suppose you could go here. I am now going a PT clinic north of the river and I get one on one attention, PTs who do the research that they promise to do, and an in house billing department that is not in a different state. I don’t recommend SERC to anybody.

I came to Serc after being hit by a car while riding my bicycle. Serc has provided me with incredible service! My therapist (Kara) is amazing, she goes out of her way to make sure all my concerns are addressed and is very careful not to cause increased pain but yet works very hard to get me back to a pain free life. The front desk is very courteous, friendly and professional making sure that all my appointments are made around my schedule. I’m very grateful for the service the Serc has provided me!

I have been coming to SERC for a couple of months now. I’m actually a repeat client. A couple of years ago I started PT following total knee replacement and Matt Oleksy was my therapist. He was very knowledgeable and straight forward about my therapy goals. He told me that he could have me up and back to work in a few months and he did. I was very pleased with the outcome of the therapy and now I’m back for therapy following rotator cuff surgery and again Matt is my therapist. He very professional and takes pride in his work and enjoys helping his clients teach their therapy goals and he has certainly done that for me. He and the rest of the staff from Misty to Katy, Paula and Lauren are very friendly and make you feel welcome. They all Rock, Thanks ladies and gent!!!

I recently had some issues with a thumb problem and a pinched nerve that effective my daily routine. After my first initial visit with Katie Atchison, she quickly assessed the problem and now several sessions later, I am moving my thumb and able to play the piano again plus the stretching exercises were excellent…they even did a graduation program to show my success through their help. I would highly recommend SERC and Katie…great job!

I came to SERC for my first experience with physical therapy 7 months after my first child was born. I had some weird aches and pains that had started during pregnancy and never fully went away. When I realized I couldn’t even run more than 3 steps without my hip giving out on me, I realized I needed help, which was totally new for me as a previously healthy active person (dancer, rock climber). Matt was my physical therapist and put me at ease the first day. He did some strength testing and quickly figured out what muscles and joints needed help. I was amazed that in a couple weeks I was already feeling so much better. I went from not being able to get up off the floor by myself after playing with the baby, to rolling around and chasing after her as she started walking. I continued therapy with him for a couple of months and feel as good as new. He discharged me with specific exercises to keep doing at home/gym, so I can continue to stay strong as my baby grows into a toddler. I have had a fantastic experience here and recommend it to anyone who needs PT!

Just completed hip therapy with SERC on Main and Gregory. Andreanna was my main therapist with Faith also playing a role in my recovery. Both were very patient with me and were able to answer any questions or concerns I may have had as well as solutions. The entire office was very friendly ..making it a comfortable place to go when you may not be feeling the greatest. There were days I didn’t feel like doing the therapy, but staff was supportive in pushing you through your therapy in order to assure I was staying on track for recovery. Can’t thank them enough!!! Hopefully I won’t have to go back ..but if I need therapy again for something, SERC would be my choice as they are sincere in wanting you to succeed!

The staff at SERC have been wonderful while working with me toward recovery. Each one is professional and knowledgeable, and they work together as a team seamlessly. If there is a technique of expertise that one therapist has, for example taping or dry needling, they will work with a patient that isn’t on their schedule to benefit the patient. The SERC team not only pushes you to improve at your appointments, but they provide a variety of at-home exercises to strengthen and stretch. Although I hope I don’t have to return to physical therapy any time soon, I would definitely some back to SERC if needed.

At thrive, we believe that pilates is for every one. Every body type, every gender, every age! Our instructors work with smart, purposeful movement to help your body work with YOU. We’re a small studio with small classes – intentionally so! Fewer bodies in the room mean that we can give more attention during class and help you feel better sooner.
History: Thrive first opened in 2015, in a small, one room studio and only offered private equipment sessions. We quickly grew into our current location in the Kansas City Club building and have expanded our services to include private sessions, drop-in mat classes, and private small group sessions. We believe that pilates is for every one. Every body type, every gender, every age! We do however, have special training and certification in areas related specifically to women’s health and fitness.

There are a lot of Pilates and yoga studios available, so why should you go to Thrive? Everyone works out to better themselves, but what that means to each of us is different. The instruction you get at Thrive has no preconceived notions of what a “better you” means. Each person’s needs are evaluated on an individual basis and the instruction is tailored to achieve your goals. For me, the constant sitting I do during work often leaves me feeling tight and sore. Every time I take a class at Thrive, I leave the class feeling better and like my muscles have been opened back up and can now work the way they are supposed to be functioning. If you are looking for a place that is focused on individuals and will help you become a healthier and stronger version of you, Thrive is worth trying out.

My first-ever Pilates session. Physically the studio is a great space: lots of light, clean, and well maintained.Lauren, the owner, took me through various movements, paying close attention to how my body responded. It felt great to move my entire body. The time went fast, though the session itself was not fast-paced. I was able to take all the time I needed.I’m definitely going back!

We have been searching for locally owned bookstores, this one came up.Great atmosphere, great selection, variety of different genres. Was pleasantly surprised by the selection.Cozy, great mural on the wall where you can draw in your favorite book on the “book shelf”We left with a arm full of books, thrilled with our “discovery”.

I love going to locally owned-bookstores. They just seem to need my help. In a world of digital books, who really needs ‘used’ books? I guess the good people of KC do. They have a nice selection of paperbacks, hardcovers, puzzles, kids’ books. etc. It’s a small store so don’t expect a huge selection. but there are some nice surprises of newish releases and older copies. be sure to help support this local shop.

As a former independent record store manager, I know the struggle to keep small independent retail media stores open in the internet/Amazon era. When I saw that Flagship Books had closed in NKC’s Iron District I surmised that they were another casualty. So, I was greatly pleased that they had jumped the Stateline and reopened in ever increasingly cool neighborhood of Strawberry Hill. .Their store is small, , but well curated. You don’t need to fumble through tons of crap to find quality titles. They carry new, used, children’s, Spanish language, local….Hopefully they have found a perfect location to thrive as KCK’s first independent book store in many decades.

Great loca bookstore! All about cultivating community and supporting writers and artist the same. I love a neighborhood bookstore that really embodies the meaning of local and small business models knowing that their guest and community are as much a part of their success as other aspects. Something I think a lot of locally owned bookstores in the KCMO/KS area have forgotten. So glad to have this gem here in our city! Stop by and also! Don’t forget about all the great events they have coming up!

I had a broken foot and was at Arc Physical Therapy recommended by Dr. Bleazard, my Orthopedic Doctor, who was fabulous. Everyone at Arc Physical Therapy from the cheerful, competent receptionist to the friendly, helpful,Therapists, who were not even working with me.My main Therapist, Scott and Ivan were so serious yet compassionate with my recovery program. They made sure I used the proper techniques and used them correctly. Scott was very creative with music to keep me inspired to succeed. Ivan introduced me to a variety of exercises so the same skills were covered without boredom. I appreciate all of the staff at Arc Therapy for getting me back on my feet again. Patti Benton

My treatment at ARC has been off and on for almost a year due to an on the job injury. I have gone through regular PT on my shoulder and knee and also an intensive work hardening program. I absolutely adore the people working here. They are super friendly and easy to get along with. They are extremely professional and knowledgeable about my treatment. I was with Michelle and JulieAnne for the first part of rehab on my shoulder. They were both great. I was with Ivan after my knee surgery, mostly on work hardening. His approach to my treatment was exactly how I expected it to be. My job requirements are to lift very heavy weight. He pushed me but was very aware of not causing more injury. He came across as genuinely caring about my well being and my ability to get back to work. I hope I never get injured again but if I do need rehab, I will request to come to this rehab facility.

He’s been pretty flexible with my schedule. Scott’s very friendly and easy to talk to. I’ve seen him with other patients and he’s very patient. I’m feeling better already. I’m glad that my friend recommended this place. This is easy to get to and right off the main road. If you get here early, you can fill up on gas next store and get a car wash or get your oil changed.I highly recommend this place! Let’s hope I don’t have a need to use it again LOL

I have been to several places for different reasons. And I have not yet to find a physical therapist as I’ve found at Modern PT. The front desk staff is always friendly, welcoming, and warm. When you arrive they always greet you with a happy hello. And the back office staff does a great job with billing and insurance questions. I’ve never experienced any issues with insurance or appointment issues in the 2 years I’ve been a patient here. They do a great job of keeping things light and fun with their monthly giveaways for patients and voting contests for pumpkin and gingerbread house displays during the holidays. The owners are both active in the community. I’ve seen them out at local school events and taking photos at local school sporting events. They display their photography skills throughout the business. I’ve always thought it would be nice to see more of the staff or patients they’ve treated included in these photos. Ryan is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and professional. He does an extraordinary job of listening to the patient to understand them better. He has compassion and also nudges you when you need that extra support. I appreciate that he starts by educating his patients and establishing the building blocks for treatment.

I’ve been to several PT places and Modern Physical Therapy is by far the best! Hannah did a thorough evaluation and developed a treatment plan that worked for me. She was very caring and too into account my pain levels and reluctance to move very much. Her fun personality made doing PT enjoyable. The rest of the crew is fun to be around as well. scheduling was a breeze and the desk staff is very friendly. Highly recommend!

This place is the worst! After having pt done here the therapist and student caused trauma to my back. He didn’t do the eval correctly which resulted in back surgery. When I asked to talk to the general manager I was told that a woman who is part owner (Lisa) would speak to me. She was rude so I gave up.

This day is available then again this day is not available. These have been my exact conversations with these people. I’m done messing with them and will find another PT to go too. Not worth the back and forth with the lady who does the scheduling.

The staff is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly, they go out of their way to ensure you are treated properly. I had Ryan as my physical therapist and he not only focused on treating my lower back but also other areas that can contribute to back pain. The stretches and exercises he taught me I will continue to utilize to strengthen my core, my back hasn’t felt this great in years! I highly recommend Modern Physical Therapy!

History: Right now there are currently 5 classic vital signs used to monitor the health and well-being of a human: heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, body temperature, and pain. We propose there should be a sixth-MOVEMENT, the most important vital sign. And much like high blood pressure is a warning light for change – how you move, and the standard criteria measured for strength, flexibility, and mobility are no different. There are many movement faults that contribute to the pathology of the musculoskeletal system, and by addressing the ROOT movement cause and not chasing symptoms we can prevent, address, and restore optimal function to the human body without medications, surgery, or injections. We are your primary care doctors to help those looking to monitor, maintain, improve, and restore their musculoskeletal system so you can live a life free from pain and limitations.

I sprained my ankle in a super fast rehearsal process for a musical, and with a huge time crunch was able to be seen by Jason at Vital Six, where they quickly got me in and worked around my difficult schedule. He helped assess the sprain and treat it, and came up with a plan for my recovery and care. I was taught how to tape the ankle, which braces would be most effective, and in each session, had hands-on manual therapy in the surrounding areas to help with my overall healing. I was given exercises based on my situation that certainly helped with my recovery. He was always willing to physically work on (and educate me on) things I asked about, and was incredibly friendly too. I always looked forward to our sessions! I also love the gym the practice is located in – incense at the front desk is my kind of therapy! Would definitely recommend this business.

Incredible experience working with Dr. Gearhart to reduce pain associated with scoliosis. I was given highly tailored care that truly got the heart of some very specific issues. He listens, is thoughtful about pushing towards goals and patient with my many questions. 11/10!!

There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep because of shoulder pain. I had surgery back in 2018 for a dislocated bicep and a full rotator cuff tear of my right shoulder. As time went on and not exercising my shoulder as I should, the pain started. Thankfully my doctor referred me to Jason at V6. Jason is an extremely knowledgeable physical therapist and worked with me to develop a plan to get back on track. That plan included homework and videos showing proper movements. After a couple of months of therapy, I no longer have any pain. I highly recommend Dr. Gearhart for any of your physical therapy needs.

SHORT version:I came to V6 due to shoulder pain I’d had for about 5 years and hip pain I had for about 2.5 years (I played volleyball in college and ran multiple times a week). I worked with Dr. Gearhart for about 16 sessions. I came in discouraged and not thinking I would be able to run or play volleyball again pain free. I was totally wrong. After my sessions ended, I can now run a few miles pain free and I can play volleyball again with no pain in my shoulder. I cannot recommend Dr. Gearhart enough. He is someone who truly cares about his patients and listens to his patients. I had been to see two different chiropractors before seeing Dr. Gearhart and my pain was only being managed then. At V6, my pain went away because we were addressing the root of the problem in both my hip and my shoulder. Forever grateful to Dr. Gearhart for helping me be able to do the things I love again. If you’re thinking about seeking out physical therapy at V6.. DO IT!LONG version:I played volleyball in high school and in college and in 2018 decided to run a marathon. During training, my shoulder would start hurting during my runs and I would have to run/walk to finish my long runs. During this time, I started going to a chiropractor once a week and they would dry needle my shoulder. This helped me get through training and helped me complete the marathon, but didn’t fix my shoulder pain. I stopped running for about a year and picked running back up in May 2020. I ended up over doing a run (well, a couple runs) and ended up hurting my hip/low back. I went back to a different chiropractor and, again, was met with dry needling and some exercises to help with my hip and low back. Similar to my first experience, nothing helped me feel like my pain was getting better, only that it was being managed. Also at this time, my chiropractor said we had to focus on either my shoulder pain or my hip pain, we couldn’t do both in one session. I stopped seeing this chiropractor in November 2021 with little results. I coach volleyball so my shoulder would hurt after leading a practice. My hip would hurt if I walked for too long to sat for too long. Even though I wasn’t feeling motivated to seek out care again for my hip and my shoulder, I was tired of being in pain by doing things I really enjoyed. I stumbled across V6 physical therapy and I truly could not be happier with my experience. I saw Dr. Gearhart and from our first consultation I had a great feeling about the work we were going to do together. It was the first time I felt like someone was actually listening to me and what was going on with my body. I went into the consultation thinking I was going to have to decide if I wanted help with my shoulder OR my hip, but, to my surprise, we were able to tackle both each session. After about 16 sessions, I can run pain free in my hip and my shoulder, which is huge for me because I love running and wasn’t able to do it for quite some time due to the pain. I can play volleyball again and I have no shoulder pain, which is also so amazing because I love playing volleyball. Forever grateful to Dr. Gearhart for helping me be able to doing the things I love again. If you’re thinking about seeking out physical therapy at V6.. DO IT!

Working with Jason has been money well spent. He is truly a master of his craft. I came in with so many messed up body parts and felt totally out of balance. My main goal initially was to improve my squat form. Jason helped me improve my hip alignment, which made my knees feel so much more relaxed while squatting. I feel so much lighter on my feet! He has also helped me make great progress on old injuries–I’ve had a dislocated shoulder, broken leg, and an SI joint injury previously. He gets right to the root of the issue with a quick assessment and I’ve felt a tremendous amount of improvement with everything we’ve worked on. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Let’s just say I’m incredibly thankful I made the decision to FINALLY trust my Chiropractor’s referral to see Dr. Gearhart. My original doctor had tried to get me to reach out for about a year, but I was nervous and afraid it would just be another medical office where my money went down the drain. However, my experience was the complete opposite! I spent 18 weeks with Dr. Gearhart and while it was very slow going since I’ve had chronic back pain for the last 7 years I left being able to live a life I wasn’t able to prior. Before seeing Dr. Gearhart I had been sleeping in a recliner for 9 months as I was unable to lay down in a bed for any length of time, could not lift anything, was in extreme pain just bending over to feed my dogs, go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, or sit down throughout the day to work. My pain had increasingly been getting worse over the years to the point I wasn’t able to really do anything without intense pain. Fast forward to after my time with Dr. Gearhart I am able to walk through stores without intense pain, bend down to feed my dogs, play ball with them, and most importantly I’ve been able to sleep in a regular bed again!!! You truly do not realize how much you miss the small things and take the small things in life for granted when you no longer have the ability to do them. If I stand or sit for too long I still will get pain but Dr. Gearhart has helped me get to a point where I can effectively manage my pain. Spending time finding the root cause of my pain has allowed me to manage my pain and know what not to do or adjustments I can make. I am forever grateful for Dr. Gearhart and what he’s taught me about my body, noticing what causes my intense pain, and better learning how to manage it. If you are on the fence about reaching out, please do. He’s great to work with, patient, flexible, listens to what you are saying and adjust accordingly, and focuses on all the small details that matter. Incredibly grateful for the outcome I’ve had with Dr. Gearhart!

I suffered a pretty severe hamstring injury on my right leg in July of 2020. While it slightly improved overtime, running long distances, sprints, and deadlifts all caused pain, and the strength of that leg never was equal to my left leg. In May of 2022, I reinjured that same hamstring to the point where just sitting and driving caused discomfort. I was referred to Jason at V6 Physical Therapy by my orthopaedic surgeon. After diagnosing me with a high hamstring strain, Jason immediately helped through a combination of soft tissue work and exercises that were tailored to equipment that was accessible to me. After 8 weeks of working with Jason, my hamstring has felt as strong as it has ever been, and I can fully return to all the activities and sports I enjoy without fear of pain. Not only that, I actually enjoyed the process. Jason is personable and engaging, and I found myself looking forward to consists rather than dreading them as I had with other physical therapists. I can’t recommend Jason and V6 highly enough.
