Perhaps this review will carry a bit more weight, my being a physician. I just finished my Medicare-covered sessions of PT for my back with Brian Esherwick, who is, simply put, excellent. I’ve had experience with two other PT’s over the years, and Brian is far superior. His creation and implementation of my exercise program was challenging, fun and effective. My interest was retained by his switching up of various exercises. He implemented a phased plan – easy at first, becoming gradually more challenging. I can’t recommend him highly enough. He’s a consumate professional, personable, and possesses a good sense of humor.

Please ignore my earlier review as it was not meant for this business. I was totally leaving this for another business!! This is not a review for Balanced Chiropractic, I repeat this is not a review for Balanced Chiropractic. This was for the Wagner chiropractic efforts. I don’t know how to remove a review but I’d like to give a good review to Balanced! Personnel are professional and they have been very accommodating and willing to listen to anything that I’m asking of them. Please accept apologies for posting this to the wrong business.

I started coming here for some lower back pain, and was put with Rebecca Wilder. She’s also from CA and a former athlete, so I immediately felt comfortable with her. She was able to quickly assess what was going on with me, so some adjustments on my back, and created a workout plan to help strengthen some of the muscles that were lacking after months of being home all the time. The facility feels very COVID-safe with temp checks when you come in, and only a limited number of people in the area at a time. Everything that is touched by one patient is marked as “dirty” and required to be wiped down before being used again. Every time I have been there a door has been open to increase airflow and, of course, everyone wears a mask. I spent 6 weeks coming 1-2x a week and can now say my back feels so much better! It’s great to have some at home exercises to help if it ever starts hurting again.

I’ve been dealing with chronic back pain for about a year. I had seen several other chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists with no long term relief. In less than 2 months with Dr. Wipf at Balance I finally feel back to normal and have a better understanding of my own back and how to treat it. The staff at Balance are so friendly, scheduling is a breeze, and their treatment style is incredible. Dr. Wipf’s adjustments were spot on but she also created an easy-to-follow PT plan, guiding me through different exercises in each session. Treating chronic pain takes a partnership and Dr. Wipf was receptive to my concerns and ideas; adjusting the treatment plan as other issues were uncovered. For an extra treat, I’d also recommend a therapeutic massage from Yerodin. It’s easily one of the best massages I’ve ever had.

After being bounced around from doctor to doctor over the course of 6 months, I had basically given up on ever finding a cause or cure for my headaches besides popping a few Tylenol. Then a friend persuaded me to give Balanced Chiropractic a try and I figured I had nothing left to lose. 2 months since starting treatment, I have been 100% headache free for about 6 weeks. Dr. Spillman took a lot of time to listen to my initial complaints and has tweaked my treatment every visit based on how I’m feeling. He also has me work out with him once per week after my adjustment and I can tell that I’m growing stronger already, which will help keep me on the right track and prevent my headaches from returning. I feel very safe in the office from a COVID-perspective.

I was referred by a coworker to see Bryan for persistent pain in my shoulder. After a few weeks of strength exercises and at home therapy, my shoulder pain went away! We then started physical therapy on my chronic back pain that had started after a work injury many years ago. Core strength exercises helped with the pain and consistent home exercises have helped me build muscle and relieve tension on my back! Thanks Bryan and Sam for helping me figure out how to get to the root of the pain!

I could not be happier with the care I have recieved from the team. After thinking I knew a good chiropractor I met sam and my mind was changed. He is truly attentive to my situation and will go out of his way to communicate even when I’m not in the office. I have also been receiving physical therapy from bryan for a spinal injury. The stretches and exercises he has tought me have helped my pain level tremendously. Couldn’t ask for a better team.

I recently finished a course of Physical Therapy at Balanced Chiropractic with Janet for plantar fasciitis. I had a very positive experience and Janet got my foot feeling so much better. Janet was always attentive, and utilized several modalities and treatment options to achieve great results. I couldn’t be happier with Janet and the entire staff at Balanced. They have a warm welcoming environment and everyone works together to ensure patients have a positive experience. I also had a few sessions with PT Bryan who was very knowledgeable and helpful. From the first time I called and spoke with Jack, the wonderful office staff ensured my experience ran smoothly. I highly recommend Balanced Chiropractic!
Kendall S. rated 5 stars on 5/18/2016
Dr. Eng was excellent in helping me cure my knee issues. I went in after dealing with uncomfortably loud knee grinding whenever I bent or exercised for 6 months, and after 1 session it was infinitely improved. She gave me exercises to do and I continue to notice improvement while seeing her once a week. She explains everything she does in understandable terms and is overall just very friendly and approachable! She also offered a back adjustment and was very clear on additional costs/what insurance does and does not cover. The office is nice but a bit hard to find, although they do have a Keurig and very friendly receptionists. I would highly recommend this business for anyone looking for physical therapy or a chiropractor in the Charlottesville area.

**UPDATE**I can honestly say I have been unable to find a chiropractor with half of Dr. Spillman’s knowledge and skills, and I will fully admit to making the drive from DC on multiple occasions. I can assure you the benefits of treatment are completely worth the drive. It’s genuinely astonishing how easily he performs adjustments; adjustments that completely elude other chiropractors. In fact, I was in a car accident while in Tennessee this past May and I debated flying halfway across the country for his treatment. If circumstances had allowed it, I would have done so in a heartbeat. (It’s worth mentioning my life is a bit crazy and family emergencies have required my relocation to various states for extended periods of time, during which, I have sought treatment from many other providers with little luck.)His commitment to quality treatment over profits remains obvious and he has restored my faith in chiropractic treatment on more than one occasion. More importantly, his honesty and encouragement have helped me remain proactive and engaged in my own treatment, which is incredibly important! There’s really nothing better than having a skilled, trusted, and honest doctor on your side. He’s the best.

Rob is a Master Reiki practitioner with great empathic skills and has helped me greatly. His guided meditations are better than any I have been to.I just had the opportunity to attend Rob’s life coaching class “Foundations for a Spiritual Life”. It was superbly presented with a thorough PowerPoint presentation. Rob is a great teacher/facilitator and I gained some great insight into myself and the world around me and how to navigate the path of life. I walked out of the class with much insight and feel more empowered to deal with life’s challenges.Rob cares immensely for his clients and students and I highly recommend him.

If you are looking for an immediate mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual shift ROB is your man! After a mini Reiki session with him, I felt reconnected to myself, i had several AHA moments throughout the process and after. Working with Rob during this session helped me realize areas of my life I need to pay attention to. When I left the session I was full of energy, I felt fulfilled, connected and happy. As I write this review I am continuing to feel all these things and I will continue my work with Rob at the Healing Frequency. I will definitely write more reviews as I try the different healing modalities The healing frequency offers. There is no limit to how far you will go if you continue to work on yourself. Give it a try you will have no regrets!!! I feel blessed that I encountered Rob, thanks to Uma from the Lotus Wellness Center.I am not one to write reviews but in this situation I really felt it was necessary for others to know about the Healing Frequency and Rob’s work. This is your moment take that step. Start a deeper healing process and reach your full potential.

I took Rob’s new spiritual life foundation course. It was a trial run for the work Rob will be doing later on. There are a lot of life coaches but Rob is one of a kind. I went in thinking that I will get a few tips for establishing a spiritual life. With meeting Rob for a personal session and this one course showed me that I will always have lots to learn and am humbled by it. Albeit I am on the young side but it’s a nice realization to have for the sake of your own growth. These days there are so many things in this world that pull us apart that we forget the foundation for bringing it all back together to be our authentic selves. Rob not only has a unique approach but a friendly one too. A good teacher/spiritual mentor or life coach will not give you anything but point you towards the treasure that is innately your joy and most optimal life. It is up to you to make it your own and to use such tools. I am grateful to people like Rob that can point you towards your own personal treasure. Thank you again Rob! I look forward to future teachings with you. If you are curious and are in the area do consider Rob for a session. You will be thankful you did.

I’ve been struggling with chronic back pain for years and it became debilitating. Spectrum is the second place I’ve been to (due to a move) and the difference in practices is night and day. Cory listens, asks questions and otherwise works to figure out exactly what’s causing the pain and what needs to be done to eliminate it, including acknowledging mental components and the need for relaxation techniques. It is obvious that every employee genuinely cares about each individual patient.I feel heard and seen – I highly recommend this group of people.

I can’t say enough good things about Move Better and the team of great people who work there. After having total shoulder replacement, I knew I’d have to spend a lot of time working to rebuild my new bionic shoulder. I honestly don’t think I’d be where I am today without Rodney and the great team at Move Better. Not that the work is easy or that the Therapists don’t keep you challenged, but it really feels like a team effort. The fact that almost every week I’m there I see someone else I know walking in the door speaks volumes about the quality of the work they do and the real reputation of the business. If you need PT, do yourself a favor and check out Move Better! All changes saved

My physical therapist never even looked at my injury site in my two visits, let alone examined, touchEd, felt, or tested my movements or strength. Instead it was just the very bare minimum “here are standard exercises to do, please do them while I watch and do my notes for the session.” When I voiced my concerns to the clinic director I was egregiously gaslit, patronized, and flat out given erroneous information, and told exercises were the only thing warranted at this stage in my recovery.Thankfully I found a great PT elsewhere who knew I could do my exercises on my own time, and devoted all of our time together to muscle activation, movement drills, stretching, myofascial release, massage, and other healing modalities. Exercises were individualized and tailored for my specific needs – I received none of this kind of care at Move Better. I urge anyone looking for proactive, individualized physical therapy to look elsewhere than Move Better.

Move Better is a great place. My therapist, Muriel A., was very caring and patient. She quickly developed a list of exercises to do and a separate list of things to avoid. At just the right time, she took the exercises up a notch and pushed me harder than I would have thought possible. The exercises became increasingly functional and I have no doubt that continuing to do them at a maintenance frequency will prevent new injury.

As a result of a motor vehicle accident in 2014, I have had physical therapy for various reasons at 5 different facilities. This place has been the best. I was impressed with Move Better PT and Dr. Rodney Madagan at my very first visit. I had a comprehensive evaluation including actual measurements of my range of motion, “hands on” treatment and exercises. They not only teach you home exercises but send videos by email with complete instructions to refresh your memory. Each visit builds on the last, and I really feel this time I’ll have long lasting recovery. I am really impressed with the care, knowledge and professionalism of the medical staff and the friendliness of the office staff. I would highly recommend MOVE BETTER to anyone seeking physical therapy.

I suffered with a sore shoulder and ankle for over a month. Stopping tennis did not relieve the pain, so I found Move Better and contacted them online after hours requesting an appointment. The next day I received a call from Lindsay, a very friendly and professional receptionist, and got an appointment right away. Reid, the PT was very thorough in the exam quickly pinpointing my problem and sending me home with exercises to start over the weekend. Three days later I felt a measurable difference in my shoulder and returned to follow up. At that appointment he made sure I had correct form while doing the exercises and added more to the routine. With only 3 appointments and at home daily work I am pain free and one happy patient. Evening and early hours are available which mades it nice for working individuals.

The staff at Move Better is one of the friendliest staffs I’ve come in contact with. They work hard together to make everyone’s experience a positive one. I read the recommended review for this business and would like to address it, my paperwork had a spot where I could choose receive emails or not. People who do not wish to receive information should pay attention and mark that box on their paperwork.Rodney is amazing! He works so hard to help his patients get better! All of the therapists at Move Better are certified physical therapists. As a patient, I get a certified therapist every time I’m there for my entire visit!

I do not usually speak highly of many businesses in Charlottesville, but this is definitely an exception. I do not even know where to begin my praise. First off, there is an element of care here, that I have not experienced much in Charlottesville. The staff and therapists have a genuine care for their patients here. I came here because my nurse case manager was not satisfied with UVa’s level of care and availability, I was sad about leaving the University PT, but on my first day here, I got over it really fast. I have been attending physical therapy here after hurting my back at work, they have been doing an amazing job, and I feel like I am getting better faster. My typical day at therapy is as follows: they start me out with a warm up on an exercise bike with a heating pad on my back, then they give me a soft tissue massage, then I do my exercises with my therapist keeping an eye on me for form and to make sure I am doing okay (I have about 5 exercises and a good stretch that gives me a break in the mid point of my work), then when my exercises are over they get me to lay on a massage table and put a heating pad on my back for ten minutes. I would recommend this place to anyone in need of physical therapy. I guarantee you will not find anyone else with this level of care in Charlottesville.

I will give Joan a 5-star review, as she’s more than deserved it. She is an excellent Reiki practitioner as well as teacher and mentor. More power to you Joan – you are awesome on what you do!
